Summer’s nearly over and Devcom and Gamescom are distant memories, but the global games market marches on. Take a moment to reflect on the games that shaped the summer, the major trends to keep your eyes on, insight into the biggest market in Europe, and a brand new Platform feature for examining all this data.
We’re back with our monthly ranking of the top PC and console games by engagement (MAU). While our data experts ramp up to release the August data, let’s look at the top games in July.
The main takeaway? Big game releases from earlier in the summer retained notable MAUs and No Man’s Sky dropped a massive update. But what else shifted among the biggest games?
The PC rankings remained largely the same in July within the top ten. Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite hung onto their coveted leading ranks, while a whole host of games made more of a splash beyond the mostly static top ten.
No Man’s Sky rocketed to #65 from #173 thanks to a 60% discount on Steam and its massive Worlds Part I update. The update completely refreshed the game’s universe with new technologies initially created for the studio’s next game, Light No Fire.
There were nearly zero changes in the top 10 console games by MAU, save for Elden Ring (#9 up from #13) riding the continued DLC success wave andThe First Descendant blasting into the top 10 after releasing at the end of June.
Change was more prevalent across the rest of the console rankings. EA Sports College Football 25(#13) smashed into the market on July 19th, not quite moving EA Sports FC 24(#4) or NBA 2K24(#11 down from #10), but still ranking quite high on PlayStation and Xbox.
